THE MISSION
On August 1, 2009, a gunman walked into The Aguda, Tel Aviva's largest GLBT center and the only national GLBT organization in the Middle East, and opened fire. The shooter killed one adult, one youth and left eleven others seriously wounded. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by saying, "Ours is a country built on tolerance, and we must respect all people as they are."Shir L'Ahava.
August 2010 also marks the 35th anniversary of The Aguda.Shir L'Ahava.
By invitation of Aguda Executive Director Mike Hamell, the Shir L'Ahava chorus will participate in a special memorial service held at the center. We will also take part in festivities celebrating 35 years of service to the Israeli GLBT community. With our presence and our song we stand in solidarity with respect and understanding, and in doing so, offer hope, inspiration and healing to our brothers and sisters abroad.Shir L'Ahava.
Performances will take place in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. United States Ambassador to Israel James Cunningham is also hoping to host an event at his residence. Details coming soon!
